Pouwhenua, Wai titi landing

hands

Now occupying a prominent position in front of the Parliament buildings in central Wellington, Wai-titi landing was originally a beach and tauranga (a resting place for waka) used by Te Atiawa/Taranaki whanau before 1840.

Two pou whenua (traditional tribal boundary markers) now stand on the site, symbolising upturned waka.

Taken and posted as a contribution to Nancy’s photo a week challenge with the theme of hands
