How I see the world

Gandalf shows the way

tour guide

Wellington offers a lot for the Lord of the Rings enthusiast – from film locations on Mt Victoria and the Hutt River, to the bars and cafes where the stars hung out during breaks in filming, to the Embassy Theatre refurbished for the world premier of Return of the King.

A Lord of the Rings focussed visit begins at the airport (“Welcome to the Middle of Middle Earth”) with giant models made by the clever folk at Weta Workshop – open to the public and around 3 km (shorter as the Great Eagle flies) from the terminal.

While not everybody is a fan – the Lord of the Rings trilogy is an important part of Wellington’s transition from a boring government town to the “coolest little capital” in the world.
