How I see the world

Playing with a new lens

I had a slightly frustrating architceture shoot on Saturday where my 18 mm (27mm equivilent) lens was just a little bit tight. So I decided to splash out on a TTArtisans 10mm (15 mm equivalent) f2 lens. It arrived today and I had a bit of a play with it in the Wellington CBD this afternoon between an appointment with my bank and my pub quiz.

I think wide angle lenses take a bit of practice, and I haven’t mastered managing distortion, but these are the shots I’m happiest with from the session.

Its a manual focus lens so this was also my first shoot without auto focus.

Old Shed on the Wharf

I’ve wanted to take this shot for ages for Thursday Doors, but there is only about a meter/yard from the front of the building to falling into the harbour behind, so this is one that really needed the new lens

Daffidols

A number of graveyards in Wellington have daffidols in early spring. I really like the juxtaposition of a symbol of new life alongside graves. For Cee’s Flower of the day

Monochrome madness

It was actually a different bridge on Wellington Harbour that frustrated me on Saturday. But in this afternoon’s light I preferred this as a subject for a late contribution to Monochrome Madness 17

Common seagulls chilling in the city

Just because

I’ve shot this scene quite often, becuase it was on a lunchtime walk when I was working – so I just wanted to see what it looked like wide. I think it works

I like these. My favorite is the daffodils in the cemetery. The composition in that shot is excellent. I also love the scenes near the water, especially the one with the gulls.

That is a great bridge, very moody atmosphere.

I love all the photos. Especially the amazing drama you captured in the skies!
